In 1999, Janelle Gamble met Michelle Hanton at the Cancer We Care Conference and was convinced by her to join the first Australian breast cancer survivor crew to paddle at the Australian National Titles in 2000. Returning to Brisbane, Janelle contacted the Brisbane River Dragons and convinced other survivors to join her to form Dragons Abreast Queensland. As the Dragons Abreast movement expanded, other teams formed in Queensland and the team within Brisbane River Dragons changed its name to Dragons Abreast Brisbane.

The team name Missabittatitti grew from the “survivor” party celebrating the end of treatment for one of our members. Once the name was suggested for the survivor guests at the party, it was an instant winner and was enthusiastically adopted by the whole team.

Dragons Abreast Brisbane train weekly with the Brisbane River Dragons (BRD) and a number of our paddlers have gone on to compete with BRD at national and international regattas.
