Dragons Abreast Camden Haven was formed after dragon boating was introduced in our area just one year ago and our group was formed shortly after this.
We currently have 11 members who are survivors and actively support and promote breast cancer awareness.
Highlights Of 2008
Pink Paddle Weekend
During breast cancer awareness month last October we held a pink paddle weekend. We had 3 fun paddles with our boat the Adele Rule decorated with pink balloons, streamers and bows along with all our paddlers dressed in pink. All paddlers that weekend made a donation to our Dragons Abreast can. Everyone on board had great fun and we plan to make this an annual event and plan to make the pink paddle days bigger and better
“Come & Try Day”
A “Come & Try Day” was held in November to raise the awareness of dragon boating and Dragons Abreast. Fundraising on the day was gold coin donations to our Dragons Abreast can, which goes directly to Dragons Abreast Australia.
Goals For 2009
A team of 6 of our members will be taking part in the Dragons Abreast Regatta at Darling Harbour in February. This will be a first time for most of us and we are all very excited and are looking forward to taking part in this wonderful day.
This year we have several fundraising functions planned to raise money towards paying our yearly DAA membership, to pay for a road trailer to allow our members to take the dragon boat to nearby towns for regattas and fundraisers and to build an extension to the boat shed so we can store the road trailer securely.
The first fundraiser being the Country Energy, Paint The Town Pink Ball to be held at The Westport Club, Port Macquarie on Saturday, 21st February. Part proceeds from this event are being donated to Dragons Abreast Camden Haven. A wonderful fun night is ensured.
During April the local Country Music Assn will be holding a Country Music Night at the Laurieton United Servicemen’s Club, proceeds also to be donated to our group. Monies raised from raffles on the night will go directly to Dragons Abreast Australia.
